Your Interview

Here are a few tips to help you better prepare for the big day:

  • Sound quality: Sound quality is important on the podcast, so if you have a nice microphone and headset, please have it set up for your interview time. If not, earbuds are the next best thing.
  • Internet connection: Internet connection will affect the quality of your interview. The best Zoom quality comes from a wired internet connection (via ethernet). However, Wi-Fi will work as well. If you have a choice, go with the wired connection.
  • Background/Setting: Your Zoom setting should be well-lit with face-directing light and a neutral background. If this is not possible; you can opt for a filter.
  • Framing: Try to center your face in the video frame and keep a distance between you and the camera less than a meter. The frame should include your torso and full face with some room above your head.
  • Distractions: You’ll want to remove any distractions, turn off your cell phone ringer during the recording time, and ensure there are no fans or loud machinery in your space.

What will you be asked?

The interviews are very “organic,” and no two are identical. That said, I open the interview by reading your bio and sharing your episode topic as an introduction. As for between the episode introduction and the end of the interview, there is no predefined set of questions.

Here is a list of the types of questions I have asked guests to give you an idea of the kinds of questions to expect:

  • What is the business that you are in?
  • Tell us about the journey that led you to the work that you do today.
  • What business practices do you have that support your lifestyle, self, and business?
  • What was the defining moment that led you to the path that you are on?
  • Where can people go to learn more about you? How do people get in touch with you? Where do people go to get more of you and your work?
  • If you could share one message with the world, what would it be?

Just plan to be yourself and share from your heart, and Denise will pull the best out of you for a great interview. Also, we are not live, so we have some flexibility to edit if necessary.

I will contact you via Zoom (audio only for podcast episodes unless a recorded session has been agreed upon beforehand). I am looking forward to speaking with you soon! Don’t hesitate to contact denise@speakingwithimpact.com for any questions or concerns.
